This is a collection of a fairly eclectic mix of Behind The Scenes, Previz’s and other experiments.

AI experiments I - UK seasonal veg calendar

Ross Cooper January 9, 2024

I’ve been looking for something vaguely useful to make with AI other than fake film stills for a while. Also trying to extend my NY best intentions past the first week of Jan. So made this UK seasonal veg calendar for my iPhone lock screen. Download all 12 here.

I used ChatGPT to list all the UK seasonal veg in the month that it comes into season. Then used Midjourney in discord to generate the images. The latest version is basically witchcraft. Prompt was “A white marble work surface laid with beautiful vegetables, Celeriac, chicory, Jerusalem artichoke, kohlrabi, parsnips, rhubarb, turnips. --ar 9:16 --v 6.0”, change veg and surface as necessary. Used ideogram to generate the handwritten type (not 100% convinced that is how you spell January). This method is much easier than installing ComfyUI / control nets & Stable Diffusion especially for something this low effort - low stakes - low reward.

That making AI is so incredibly easy is still mind blowing in Jan 2024, but I have a gnawing feeling it’ll be like filtering the fuck out of my first 12 instagram posts circa 2012. An amazing novelty that is faintly embarrassing in hindsight. It took longer writing this caption and putting it on my insta, than it did to create the images. The future is weird. At least my microbiome is gonna be spectacular just in time for it to be obliterated in the coming AI apocalypse. Prob gonna make a meat, fish, cake and new beaujolais day version instead... At least one of those should age well.

When I previz, I usually do it myself in Maya. I don’t previz everything because you can lose the result enhancing boost that brilliant human collaborators add. But doing your own previz can be invaluable for complicated / expensive / dangerous / post heavy and or time critical shots.
